Darling Anachronism

Mycah Darlington
Darling Anachronism is a self-taught Canadian artist. Influenced by many artists, her self proclaimed favourites are Salvador Dali, Tim Burton, Zdzistaw Beksinski, and Ralph Steadman. Darling tends to focus heavily on small details, the veins in a leaf, or a small wrinkle in the skin as she believes, as it is in life, these betray where the story is really being told. The story behind the story, the dichotomy of existence, and the humour in both the joy and fear of the journey of life. She believes you can not truly appreciate life without embracing death, a reoccurring theme in her body of work. Uncomfortable with being restricted to a specific style or medium, Darling mostly uses paint, ink, pencil, and digital mediums to explore the beauty of nature, the terror of nightmares, and the sensual and perverse aspects of human sexuality. Whether it is to portray the world at its worst, what she wants it to be, or playing with the boundaries of what is, Darling’s art cannot be confined in its evolution. Darling’s work aims to expose the contradictions in our values, encouraging self awareness, compassion, and sometimes vulnerability in the viewer.
